Endangered Giant Blue Iguanas Found Stomped to Death

Six rare iguanas were found dead inside a Grand Cayman facility where the endangered reptiles had been brought back from the verge of extinction.

Director of the Blue Iguana Recovery Program, Fred Burton, reported the six endangered lizards had been stomped to death late Saturday or early Sunday.

The blue iguana is found in the wild in Grand Cayman, and only 10 to 25 were known to exist before Hurricane Ivan ravaged the island in 2004.

The Royal Cayman Islands police were investigating the deaths inside the fenced-in facility that is a part of the QE II Botanic Park.
