Rep. Vito Fossella Admits to Extramarital Affair with Laura Fay

United States Representative Vito Fossella has admitted that he had an extramarital affair eith a woman named Laura Fay. Fossella says he is the father of Fay’s 3-year-old daughter.

The Republican’s affair came to light last week after he was arrested in Virginia. Fossella was charged with driving under the influence. Police said his blood alcohol level registered at twice the legal limit.

 

After he was pulled over, Fossella told officers that he was going to see his daughter who lived in the area. When he was questioned about his daughter, Fossella revealed the affair. Fay bailed him out of jail after the arrest.

 

“I have a relationship with Laura Fay, with whom I have a 3-year-old daughter,” he said in a statement.

 

“My personal failings and imperfections have caused enormous pain to the people I love and I am truly sorry,” Fossella added. The 43-year-old and his wife have three children together.

 

Fossella, who was elected to congress in 1997, says he is not concerned about how the affair will affect his political career. “While I understand that there will be many questions, including those about my political future, making any political decisions right now are furthest from my mind,” he said. “Over the coming weeks and months, I will continue to do my job and I will work hard to heal the deep wounds I have caused.”
