Katrina Victim Wins $97 Million Powerball Lottery

A Louisiana man who lost two homes in Hurricane Katrina has claimed the largest Powerball jackpot in the state’s history.

Carl Hunter bought a Powerball lottery ticket at a convenience store near his home in a New Orleans suburb. He won the $97 million prize for the drawing on Jan. 16, but waited more than four months to claim his winnings.

The construction company owner said he waited to come forward in order to finish up some of his construction work. Hunter said he plans to retire.
