Former U.S. Senator and one-time Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards has said that his party would likely be seeing Illinois senator Barack Obama leading the charge in the 2008 presidential election. Edwards has called Obama the Democratic Party’s “likely presidential nominee.”
Edwards has yet to publicly endorse a candidate in the Democratic run but noted Obama has “the capacity to unite the Democratic Party [and] to bring in new voters, to bring in people who haven't been involved in the process over a long time and to get people excited about this change.”
Barack Obama now trails Hillary Clinton by a single superdelegate but has a clear advantage in the delegate count.
