Sen. Barack Obama received six more superdelegates Friday, including one from a former Hillary Clinton supporter.
Hawaii Rep. Mazie Hirono and South Carolina Democratic Party Vice Chair Wilber Lee Jeffcoat both announced they are supporting the Illinois presidential candidate.
California Democratic National Committee member Ed Espinoza and Rep. Peter DeFazio of Oregon also declared their support of Obama.
Rep. Donald Payne, a New Jersey Democrat and an early Clinton supporter, is officially switching to Obama, much to Clinton's chagrin.
John Gage, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, also said he is backing Obama. His union, which is affiliated with the AFL-CIO, said it represents more than 600,000 workers.
The Clinton campaign confirmed five superdelegates Friday also, but all five had declared their support prior to the North Carolina and Indiana primaries.
In order to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination, a candidate needs 2,025 total delegates. Obama leads the delegate count with 1,860 total delegates, 165 delegates short of clinching the Democratic nod, and Clinton has 1,696.
