Joshua Packwood will become the first white valedictorian in the 141-year history of Morehouse College, a prestigious historically Black college in Atlanta.
Morehouse, the nation's only historically Black college for men, will have its commencement practices on Sunday morning at 8am on the school's Century campus.
Packwood, 22, will graduate with a perfect-4.0 grade point average and a degree in economics. As a valedictorian, he will address the graduating class, along with commencement speaker Emmett D. Carson, the President and CEO of The Silicon Valley Community Foundation in Mountain View, CA.
Throughout his college career, Packwood was named dorm president in Brazeal Hall as a freshman and a Rhodes Scholar finalist as a senior. Packwood, known to his friends as simply Josh, has interned on Wall Street for Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs, studied abroad in London and Costa Rica, and traveled to China and Switzerland due to studies.
After graduation, Packwood, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, will work for investment banking firm Goldman Sachs in New York City.
Morehouse graduates the most African-American males from college in the nation and the moniker "Morehouse man" has a strong, prestigious connotation amongst the Black community and abroad.
Martin Luther King, Jr., Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson and Edwin Moses are a few famous alumni from Morehouse.
