Economic shift results in necessity for increased alcoholism treatment
Need for alcoholism treatment increases as economy remains stagnate
For as long as historical patterns regarding substance abuse have been recorded, economic woes have long played a hand in the rate of such abuse. With economic hardship comes increased incidence of depression, and those who are predisposed to alcoholism have a greater chance of falling into a pattern of alcohol abuse as a way to cope with their financial stress. With the economy in such a state of disarray there has never been a greater need for alcohol abuse prevention and treatment than right now.
Alcohol abuse is the number one substance abused worldwide due to its availability and low-cost. And, unfortunately, the victims of such abuse are becoming younger and younger. The only way to turn these statistics around is through support and education.
“The economy is impacting the need for drug rehab and alcoholism treatment, worldwide,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Historically, a poor economy has resulted in an increased rate of alcoholism across the board. Those who used alcohol socially are using it with greater frequency as a means of temporary escape from their current financial struggles. Those who have been abusing alcohol at a moderate pace are also increasing the frequency of use, compounding their problems further. And, in families with such stress the younger members are consuming alcohol at younger ages. In order to combat this problem, we firmly believe in alcohol abuse prevention through education initiatives. This can be done at a community level or at the school level. Either way, it must be done. Individuals must be given the tools necessary to cope with stressful situations. Not only must they be given those tools, but they must be taught how to use them effectively. Only through such means are we going to curb the incidence of alcohol abuse during economic hardship.”
