Death Toll Nears 15,000 as China Continues to Dig for Survivors

China’s worst earthquake in more than 50 years has left more than 55,000 people buried under rubble, considered missing or dead. More than 25,000 people are considered to still be buried under the debris as rescuers attempt to free them.

In the province of Sichuan, a school collapsed killing 178 children and injuring dozens more. Nearby, a three-year-old girl was rescued after being trapped for more than 40 hours under the bodies of her parents.

Near the epicenter of the quake at Dujiangyan, rescue workers are finding the roads nearly impassable. Food and relief supplies are being dropped from helicopters above the town.
