Police say a “person of interest” has been arrested in connection with the Florida fires. Brian Crowder, 31, was taken into custody by Palm Bay police today.
Investigators announced yesterday that they believe an arsonist is responsible for four different fires that have damaged homes and thousands of acres. Palm Bay police chief Bill Berger says the fires flared up within hours of each other.
As many as 100 homes have been damaged in central Florida by the fires and 3,500 acres have been burned. No deaths have been reported. Firefighters worked to control the separate blazes and a fire marshal says most of the fires are under control.
“People do this for fascination, for thrills…the word is sick,” said Berger when asked why someone would set fires.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the arsonist.
