Reports by the ruling military junta in Myanmar have put the death toll from Cyclone Nargis at less than 30,000 while officials with the United Nations say that number could be closer to 100,000.
Relief workers have been turned away from the devastated Irrawaddy delta where more than 2 million people, believed to have survived the May 3 cyclone, now face disease and starvation.
On Wednesday, Thailand’s prime minister rejected aid from foreign sources, claiming the junta has control of relief operations.
