Honestly, is there any better day dream than the dreaming of the unlikely to impossible to happen? This in fact might be my favorite pastime of all. Dating a super model or heart's content, super strength, or what it'd be like to win the World Series of Poker are all long shots for pretty much everyone, but it doesn't prevent us from coveting them does it? It's likely to never winning the World Series of Poker or date a super model, but there isn't much harm in trying.
Sometimes betting on a long shot is worth the dreams that come along with it. Throwing 10 dollars down on a Sunday football ticket, and picking 6 teams at 250 to 1 odds is a long shot. Taking the horse with the best pay out odds at the track is the quintessential long shot. Betting a number in roulette, or even your favorite sports team to win it all before the season begins are all long shots to win.
That however will never stop us from doing those things. We know they're long shots, but somehow we always feel good about making that bet. Imagining what to do with the winnings are often worth the amount of the bet in my opinion. Even if it's just imagining betting with the winnings to make even more money.
