Kaitlyn Lassiter Speaks Out For Amusement Park Safety

Kaitlyn Lassiter, whose feet were severed on an amusement park ride last year, is speaking out for the first time. The 14-year-old and her family are pushing for the federal government to be able to set safety regulations for amusement park rides.

The Lassiter family and Massachusetts congressman Edward Markey are pushing for a loophole in the law, that prohibits the government from setting regulations, to be closed.

“This accident has affected my life dramatically. I wont be the person I was before because now I’m scared of stuff,” says Lassiter. “I fear for my life when I get in a car, I fear for my life when I get on an elevator. It’s hard for me to live my days like I used to.”

Both of Lassiter’s feet were severed at a Louisville amusement park on June 21 of last year. She was riding the Superman Tower of Power ride when a cable snapped. The accident severed her feet. Doctors were able to reattach one but not the other.
