An Australian Army officer was sentenced to 7 years in jail for stealing 10 rocket launchers that ended up in the hands of terrorists.
Shane Malcolm Della-Vedova was a munitions expert in the Australian Army between 2001 and 2003. The rocket launchers, which were stolen during that time, were sold to a former family member.
Della-Vedova claimed he had no idea the weapons would end up in the hands of terrorists, and that selling the rocket launchers was just a “failure in utter logic.”
A judge in the Sydney District Court said Della-Vedova’s claim was unbelievable given the events of 9/11, and said he had trouble imaging any other use for the weapons besides terrorism.
Nine of the stolen rocket launchers remain missing.
