'Space Cockroaches' Appear Normal

After spending 12 days in orbit, the pioneering space cockroach Nadezhda (Hope) now has a new title – grandmother.

Russian space scientists announced that more than 30 descendants of the first cockroach to inhabit the International Space Station have been born.

While the first descendants of the space cockroach developed at a faster rate than normal, this line is developing at a pace consistent with the average household cockroach.

Nadezhda the space cockroach was the latest in a long line of animals and insects tested by Russian space scientists.
