Burma Promises to Take Action against Hoarders

Burma’s ruling military government announced Thursday that hoarding or trading international aid supplies would bring legal action.

Reports out of Burma that the military was confiscating supplies prompted the warning.

A human rights watch group has blasted the ruling military junta over reports that survivors of Cyclone Nargis are being given inferior and spoiled food supplies rather than the high energy biscuits made available by international relief sources.

Relief efforts have also been thwarted by the government’s refusal to allow foreign aid workers into the areas affected by the tropical cyclone two weeks ago.
