The Tigers road trip couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. With Thursday 8-4 lost the team was swept in KC to fall to 16-25 on the season a season high nine games under .500. The Tigers have to be the most disappointing team in baseball and with the way they played in the series it doesn’t seem to be close to changing.
Kenny Rogers started the game today against Royals ace Gil Meche and didn’t have a very good day. He gave up seven earn runs on eleven hits in only four innings of work. He wasn’t able to spot the fast ball and when he did get the ball over the plate the Royals hitters made him pay. Gil Meche received some run support for a change and made the most of it throwing seven innings and only 3 runs in a solid outing.
The story of the game has to be the Tigers inconsistent offense and pitching and the Royals dominance of them so far this year. The Royals are 6-0 against the Tigers this year and they are now only two games under .500 at 19-21 with a sweep of the Tigers. The Royals believed in Spring Training that they would be a much improved ball club but probably wasn’t ready to contend. However, with the wide open AL Central this year, anything is possible and the Royals might be buyers this year in the trade market rather than sellers.
