Following his visit to Israel to celebrate the country’s 60th anniversary as an independent state U.S. President George Bush continued his tour of the Middle East, heading to Saudi Arabia where he began talks with King Abdullah in efforts to increase his country’s oil production.
Many Americans are hoping that Bush will be able to convince King Abdullah to open production as the U.S. continues to face record high prices at the gas pump. On Friday oil hit a new high when it reached $127 a barrel with the national average at the pump hitting $3.78 per gallon.
When the two leaders met four months ago Bush appealed to Abdullah for an increase in oil production yet the Saudi king refused, saying the production of oil matched the market.
