The leaders of SuperCamp’s U.S. academic summer camps are gathering at SuperCamp’s headquarters starting today to make final preparations for this year’s summer enrichment programs held on eight college campuses in California, Washington, Colorado, New York, Iowa and North Carolina.
It is a tradition that goes back 26 years, since SuperCamp began running teen summer camps. The quality and preparation of the SuperCamp staff are two of the hallmarks of the highly regarded summer camp program that set it apart from other summer camps. Over 48,000 students have graduated from SuperCamp since 1982.
“Not only are we concerned about the learning that takes place during SuperCamp,” says Chicka Elloy, SuperCamp Programs Manager, “but we want to ensure that it’s a fun, positive and safe experience all the way around for every camper.”
As a result, the senior camp staff goes through every last detail during three days of meetings that will cover the well over 30 individual camp programs that SuperCamp will run this year for students from grade 4 into college. There is even a unique summer camp for parents that SuperCamp offers, which requires its own special planning.
SuperCamp’s staff at each location includes a lead facilitator, additional facilitators who teach portions of the curriculum, team leaders who lead groups of 10 to 12 campers, an office manager, a counselor, a products coordinator, a wellness counselor, and a logistics manager.
SuperCamp’s academic summer camps combine academic skills, learning skills and physical challenges, which together help to develop the whole person. As a result, the SuperCamp staff must be multi-talented in order to help create meaningful transformations in students in just 10 days.
It’s clear that what the staff is doing works. In a study of over 6,000 SuperCamp graduates, 73 percent of graduates reported achieving higher grades after attending SuperCamp. An astonishing 98 percent of graduates indicated that they continued to use the skills they learned following camp, while 84 percent said their self-esteem improved and 81 percent note an increase in confidence.
SuperCamp targets its programs to specific age and grade levels. Junior Forum is for students entering grades 6-8, Senior Forum is for students entering grades 9-12 and Quantum U is a college boot camp for incoming college freshmen. A Youth Forum program is available in
