Venezuelan President Chavez Allegedly Linked to Colombian Rebels

According to documents intercepted by Interpol, Venezuelan President Hugh Chavez has ties to Colombian rebel forces, possibly funding terrorist activities by the group.

Documents seized during investigations into the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) revealed information suggesting Chavez may have helped the group obtain weapons and funding.

Chavez’s affinity with the group has been fueled by much speculation since he negotiated the release earlier this year of six hostages held by the FARC.

Chavez claims the Interpol reports are nothing more than a 'clown show.'

Ecuador’s President Rafael Correa, who has also faced allegations of supporting FARC insurgencies, supported Chavez’s claim that the documents prove nothing.

The United States has asked for an explanation from Venezuela on why its government officials “were conspiring against a democratic neighbor.”
