US to Supply Food to North Korea

After weeks of talks over the distribution of supplies, the United States announced Friday it would supply 500,000 metric tons of food over the coming year to North Korea.

The communist country of 23 million people has faced several years of natural disasters and government mismanagement. Without immediate aid, the United Nations warns the nation could face an even worse humanitarian disaster.

An exact cost for the aid was not known given rising food and gas prices.
