The spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism arrived in Germany Thursday for a five-day speaking tour.
Upon his arrival in Germany, the Dalai Lama reiterated the call for autonomy for Tibet, saying his land shared a “universal heritage” with China.
Tibetans claim they have effectively been independent for centuries, while China argues Tibet has been its territory.
China’s relations with Germany have been strained since the Dalai Lama met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel last September.
