Another gorgeous destination is the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, located in eastern Oregon. Hells Canyon has the distinction of being the deepest river gorge in North America. Fun activites in the park include camping, picnicking, hiking, horseback riding, and river rafting.
Mount Hood, an 11,249-foot tall active volcano, is the tallest mountain in Oregon. The mountain boasts six ski areas as well as many campgrounds and hiking trails. The 105-mile long scenic Mount Hood Loop offers some dazzling views as well as many art galleries and antique shops.
After Portland, the two largest cities in Oregon are Salem and Eugene. Salem, the state capitol, is a beautiful town with lots of parkland. Fun places to see in Salem include the Asabel Bush House, the Deepwood Estate, the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, the Mission Mill Museum, the Oregon State Capitol, and Waller Hall. Eugene, the third largest city in the state, is home to the University of Oregon. Things to see in Eugene include the Fifth Street Public Market, the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, the Saturday Market, and the University of Oregon Museum of Natural History.
