California Carnival Ride Collapse Injures 24 Children

A ride at California's Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee spun out of control on Friday night sending several kids flying through the air and injuring all 24 who had been on the attraction.

The accident occurred on a ride known as the Yo-Yo in which passengers are placed in several bucket seats that are attached to chains on mechanical arms. The arms spin from above and life the seats from the ground sending them up and down while rotating.

A malfunction in the ride occurred and several children were dragged across the ground while others were thrown through the air as chains began to snap.

The extent of the injuries ranged from scraps and cuts to three children being airlifted to local hospitals.
