DIGITAL PRODUCTION BUZZ COVERS VIDEO COMPRESSION, BLU-RAY DVD LICENSING, EDITING, AND THE CHALLENGES OF FILMMAKING

Leading Digital Media Podcast Features Guests Andy Beach, John Brawley, Scott Simmons, and Bruce Nazarian

The current episode of Creative Planet’s Digital Production BuZZ, the world's only interactive talk radio for digital production, post-production and distribution, covers topics including real-world video compression, Blu-ray DVD licensing and burning, tips for better editing organization and the challenges of shooting an independent film.

Andy Beach, director of product management at Inlet Technologies, is the author of Real World Video Compression—recently published by Peachpit Press. In this week’s show, Beach discusses his book and successful video compression techniques for platforms including the Web and Blu-ray DVD. "Video compression is an extremely hot topic with a lot of confusion surrounding it," said Larry Jordan, executive producer and host of Creative Planet’s Digital Production BuZZ. "Our live chat lit up during the show with questions which we could answer immediately during the show.  I love the interactivity that The BuZZ provides to talk with leaders in our industry and have listeners ask the questions that are of direct concern to them. There's nothing like it anywhere else on the Internet."

Australian cinematographer John Brawley also visited the BuZZ to share his experiences as cinematographer working on Lake Mungo, scheduled to debut at the Sydney [Australia] Film Festival on June 18, 2008. Lake Mungo is the story about the paranormal activity following the unexpected drowning of a 16-year-old girl and its chilling effect it had on those she left behind. Part of the challenge in working on the film is that they shot in more than 10 video formats, from mobile phones and VHS to HD and file. The current show also features Bruce Nazarian, president of the DVD Association providing an update on how to successfully burn a DVD disc and Filmworker Club’s Scott Simmons discussing his recent blog on how to get better organized for editing.
