Among the many exciting travel destinations in this area include Lake Chelan, Olympia, Port Townsend, Spokane, Tacoma, and the Walla Walla Mountains.

Olympia, the capitol of Washington state, is also a major art center, offering much in the way of visual arts, music, and theater. Jazz lovers can enjoy the splendid Dixieland Jazz Festival, held here every February. Visitors can also enjoy some fine plays at the Capitol Playhouse and the Olympia Little Theater. Other activities to be enjoyed in Olympia include hiking and golf.

When visiting Washington State, one should not pass up the magnificent San Juan Islands. This is a group of 172 small islands located in Puget Sound in the northwestern corner of the state. Several ferries shuttle between the largest of these islands and Anacortes on the mainland. Friday Harbor, located on San Juan Island, the second largest of the islands, is a charming seaport and tourist town. Other fun places to visit in the San Juans include Deer Harbor, Lime Kiln Point State Park, Lopez Island, and Roche Harbor.

Spokane, the second largest city in Washington, is another exciting place to visit. Riverfront Park is a beautiful spot in the city. This is the location of Expo '74, the 1974 World's Fair. The park includes a 5-storey IMAX theater, a gondola ride, a hand-crafted carousel ride, and many other attractions. Other fun things to see in Spokane include the Campbell House and the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.
