Nearly 33,000 acres of the Everglades National Park have been burned by one of several wildfires burning across Florida. Fire officials say the blaze began Friday. The Everglade fire put private property and endangered birds at risk.
Almost 200 firefighters battled the fire on Saturday and by Sunday morning it was 20 percent contained. More fire crews were expected to help on Sunday.
The blaze is the latest fire to breakout in Florida. Last week more than 12,000 acres burned in Palm Bay, 19,000 acres burned in Clewiston and 1,300 acres burned north of Apalachicola. Those fires are expected to be fully contained by Tuesday.
Authorities charged a Florida man, Brain Crower, with arson in the Palm Bay fires.
