Dalai Lama Meets with Germany’s Economic and Development Minister

While the Dalai Lama did not get an audience with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet did meet with Economic and Development Minister Heidemarie Wiczorek-Zeul, a move that caused a divide between many Germans.

It has been just over a year since the last time the Dalai Lama visited Germany and at that time he met with Chancellor Merkel, a move that sparked outrage from the Chinese government and threatened future relations between the two countries.

With fear that those relations could once again turn cold many politicians have voiced their disapproval with Wieczorek-Zeul’s decision to meet with the Dalai Lama yet there were many other politicians as well as German citizens who respected the decision.

Since being in Germany the Dalai Lama has continued to address the thousands who gather tohear him speak about the importance of religious tolerance.
