The Boston Red sox had another game her special moment to add to their rich history. Lefty starter Jon Lester had a game to remember last night and he was in complete control of the game. Lester has overcome so much such as skin cancer and now he is standing tall as a Major Leaguer to throw a no-hitter. The Royals are no slouch and they have been recently hot. With sweeping the Tigers and recently taking 2 of three from the competitive Marlins.
Lester went threw nine no hit innings striking out nine and only walking two. Walks have some what been a problem for Lester and maybe this will be the turning point for him to get that turned around. Lester has been criticized for so long for not being able to keep the ball down and allowing hitters to get too good of a look at his pitches. Against the Royals last night, he did a great job at mixing in his off-speed pitches along with keep his fastball down in the zone. Fellow Red sox young starter Clay Buchholz threw a no no in September of the 2007 season at Fenway also.
Lester threw a total of 130 pitches in the game but much of them were no stress. Lester was throwing up to 94mph in the 9th inning and didn't look to be tiring at all. This is something that many should be celebrating even outside of Red sox nation about a guy who has overcome so much and now is at the top of baseball, at least for one night.
