400 Kangaroos to be Killed by Australian Authorities

An overabundance of Australia’s most beloved animals has led authorities to begin a plan to kill more than 400 kangaroos. The huge numbers of the kangaroo population had begun to destroy the grassland habitats of other species, including several rare lizards.

The Defense Department had originally planned to ship the animals to a remote forest, but that proposal proved too costly.

Animal rights activists were up in arms over the killings. A project manager for Animal Liberation New South Wales said more than 20 eastern gray kangaroos had been tranquilized then killed by lethal injection.
