90 People Killed in India after Drinking Bootleg Liquor

90 people have died and more than a dozen have been hospitalized over the last four days in southern India after drinking locally-brewed liquor that had been tainted with lethal chemicals.

Legal sales of liquor had been suspended Saturday due to government elections in parts of southern India.

Officials in India said six people had been arrested for selling the bootleg alcohol, which was being tested to determine its contents.

Deaths from illegal alcohol have become common in poorer towns and villages where chemicals or pesticides are often added to the brew to make it stronger.
