Teen Summer Camps Pick Up Where High Schools Leave Off

SuperCamp's teen summer camps are filling in learning gaps left by school's budget cutbacks and commitments to training for standardized testing. As a result, the program's academic summer camps are facing an unprecedented demand among parents wanting to provide their teens with summer enrichment to help them succeed in high school.

"My husband and I felt it was important to augment what our son was getting in school with the learning and life skills SuperCamp teaches," said Debra Hartley, whose son, Scott, attended SuperCamp last year between his freshman and sophomore years in high school. "And it's paid off; his grades are up and we're seeing much more discipline in terms of how he manages his time for homework and studying for tests and exams."

 The summer enrichment programs offered by SuperCamp complement what schools are able to deliver by addressing enhanced reading, writing, problem-solving, critical-thinking, memory and study skills. In addition, the teen summer camp provides campers with life skills techniques that help in the areas of communication, leadership, team-building, and time management.

Over 3,000 students are expected to attend SuperCamp this summer, bringing the total of graduates by the end of the summer to over 55,000 since the summer camp program launched almost 30 years ago in 1982.

The academic camp offers programs for students entering the following grades in the fall: 4-5, 6-8, 9-12 and college. Camps are held at nine U.S. colleges, including Stanford, Brown, Cal State San Marcos and Colorado College.

SuperCamp's management team recently added new dates to this summer's schedule to meet the growing demand. As a result, while several camps are already full, there is space available in all program levels.
