USATravelPal.com, a comprehensive travel website in progress, provides comprehensive travel information on over 1500 exciting destinations throughout the United States, including 22 in the three national parks of Arizona, namely the Grand Canyon, the Petrified Forest, and Saguaro. Each of these national parks offers much in the way of the serene, unique beauty of the state.
Considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world, Grand Canyon National Park is not to be missed! With a depth of over a mile, it is the deepest canyon in the world. This mighty canyon was gorged by the Colorado River, which still runs through it. Tourists can hike or ride mules into the depths of the canyon. Other fun things to do here include whitewater rafting down the Colorado or hovering over the canyon in a helicopter.
The Petrified Forest National Park contains the nation's largest deposits of petrified wood as well as over 500 archaeological sites and mighty sand dunes, which change color throughout the day. Petrified wood is formed from the wood cells of dead trees being replaced by multicolored quartz crystals over a period of millions of years. Various plant and animal fossils up to 200 million years old can be found in this park.
Saguaro National Park is named for the mighty saguaro cacti which grow here. The saguaro, which has come to symbolize the Southwest, can grow to a height of up to 50 feet. The park also features some splendid mountains and a wide variety of other desert plants as well. Fun activities in the park include hiking and biking.
