Swedish Nuclear Plant Sealed Off; Employee Found Carrying Trace Amounts of Explosive

Swedish authorities sealed off a nuclear plant after an employee arrived for work carrying a plastic bag containing traces of an explosive substance.

The plant, located 150 miles south of Stockholm, continued to operate normally and workers already inside the plant were not evacuated.

Police said the substance was identified as triacetone triperoxide, or TATP, and posed no threat to the plant in the trace amounts discovered.

The incident was being taken seriously as TATP was the explosive used in the 2005 London bombings.

Weapons experts said TATP is very unstable, sensitive to both friction and shocks, and has no civilian use. Even in small amounts, TATP is highly explosive.
