The bodies of a least 20 whales washed up on a shore Wednesday near
Villagers spotted the whales swimming close to shore Tuesday night, and even attempted to keep the whales from getting too close.
By Wednesday morning, area residents discovered many of the whales had beached themselves and were dead or dying.
Fisherman were able to tow one whale back out to sea after villagers gave up trying to push another back into the water.
