Lou Pearlman Sentenced to 25 Years in Federal Prison

Lou Pearlman, the man who created boy band sensations Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync, has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to two counts of conspiracy as well as money laundering and presenting a false claim in bankruptcy court.

U.S. District Judge G. Kendall Sharp handed down the maximum sentence after it was revealed Pearlman had scammed nearly $200 million from individuals and another $100 million from banks.

Sharp noted “the sympathy factor just doesn't run very high with the court,” clearly showing no mercy on a man who took the life savings of family members, friends and retirees.

Pearlman addressed the court saying, “Over the past nine months since my arrest, I've come to realize the harm that's been done. I'm truly sorry and I apologize for what's happened.”
