Dalai Lama Hopes to Attend Summer Olympics in Beijing

During a 12-day visit of Britain, the Dalai Lama indicated he would welcome an invitation from China to attend the summer Olympic Games scheduled to begin August 8.

The exiled Tibetan leader said he would like to meet with Chinese authorities to discuss the upcoming games. He also expressed praise for the Chinese government’s response to last week’s 7.9 magnitude earthquake.

The Olympic torch relay, which is currently traveling across mainland China, is scheduled to pass through Tibet next month.
