Greater Las Vegas Travel Information Featured on USATravelPal.com

USATravelPal.com, a comprehensive travel website in progress, provides comprehensive travel information on over 1500 exciting destinations throughout the United States, including the following five in the Greater Las Vegas area: Boulder City & Hoover Dam, the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the Valley of Fire Station Park, the Lost Museum of Archaeology, and Red Rock Canyon. Each of these places is worth a visit.

Boulder City, a small town 20 miles outside of Las Vegas, is the home of the magnificent Hoover Dam. Built from 1931 to 1935, this mighty dam was at the time of construction both the world's largest hydroelectric power plant and the world's largest concrete structure. Besides touring this manmade wonder, visitors can enjoy the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum, which provides a fascinating historical account of the project.

Another fun place to go near Las Vegas is the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Lake Mead is the world's largest manmade lake. The water from this lake comes from melted snowfall from Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. Here, visitors can enjoy all sorts of water sports, including swimming, boating, water skiing, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The area also offers several spectacular hiking trails through the surrounding desert terrain.

The Valley of Fire Station Park, located about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas, is a beautiful old park offering some spectacular views of 150-million-year-old colorful sandstone and sand dune formations. Here, one can also find some fascinating prehistoric rock artwork created by the Anasazi Tribe of Native Americans.

Another nearby place to find Anasazi artwork is the Lost City Museum of Archaeology in Overton, Nevada. This museum consists of reconstructed adobe structures built on an actual Anasazi pueblo built some 3000 years ago. Ancient treasures on display here include pottery, chipped tools, and jewelry.

Lastly, Las Vegas tourists should not miss the beautiful Red Rock Canyon. Located just 15 miles west of downtown, this fascinating sandstone structure is easily visible from the freeway. Fun activities here include picnicking, hiking, rock climbing, and biking.
