USATravelPal.com, a comprehensive travel website in progress, provides comprehensive travel information on over 1500 exciting destinations throughout the United States, including 15 in the Greater Nevada area (outside Las Vegas and the surrounding area). Greater Nevada offers two national parks: Death Valley and Great Basin. Cities in the Greater Nevada area include Carson City, Reno, and Virginia City.
Death Valley, running between California and Nevada, holds the distinction as being the hottest spot in North America. Average daily summer high temperatures are around 112 degrees. The best time to visit are in the spring, when the wildflowers are in bloom. Death Valley has some beautiful viewspots, including Artist's Palette and Dante's View.
Great Basin National Park, the other national park in Nevada, offers some stunning views of craggy mountains with fast-flowing streams. Here you'll find the Lehman Caves, some of the largest limestone caves in the country. Adventurous climbers can challenge themselves by climbing the 13,000-foot Wheeler Peak. This park also provides some excellent opportunities for superb cross-country skiing during the wintertime.
Reno, the third largest city in Nevada (after Las Vegas and nearby Henderson), is popularly known as "The Biggest Little City in the World". Reno offers much of the glitz of Las Vegas as well as several popular tourist spots, including the National Automobile Museum, the Nevada Shakespeare Company, the Nevada Museum of Art, the Reno Arboretum at the University of Nevada, the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Garden, the Reno Pops Orchestra, and the Pioneer Center for Performing Arts. Reno is also located just 22 miles from the spectacular Lake Tahoe, an idyllic location for skiing in the wintertime as well as fishing, water skiing, wakeboarding, parasailing, jet skiing, and swimming during the summertime.
