Venezuela to Cut Ties with Colombia Following Accusations of Harboring Militants

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez has announced that his country would be cutting ties with Colombia following accusations of harboring militants.

Colombia recently said they had evidence that Venezuela was being used as a safe haven for guerillas yet Chavez has denied those claims. The president said his country could not get past the accusations and announced on television “We have no other choice but to totally break our relations with our brother nation of Colombia.”

The announcement comes after Colombia had already recalled their ambassador and filed a complaint with the Organization of American States. That complaint included a number of photos and maps that appeared to support their claims of Colombian rebels taking refuge in Venezuela.
