A transportation strike in France has train services slowing and protestors up in arms after a pension plan reform was announced.
France’s state-run train authority indicated only one in two trains were running Thursday while international lines operated normally.
The strike, which had no effect on the Paris Metro, was expected to cause only slight delays at the Orly airport in Paris.
Workers are protesting plans introduced by President Nicolas Sarkozy to extend the number of years needed on the job to collect full pension.
Sarkozy, who came into office a year ago with vows to modernize France, said the government needed the pension plan reform in order to fill empty coffers.
