Italy Plans to Bring Back Nuclear Power

Plans by Italy’s new government to restart the country’s nuclear power program were announced Thursday.

Industry Minister Claudio Scaiola indicated the government will begin construction on Italy’s first new nuclear power station since the country closed its nuclear energy program in 1987.

Scaiola made the announcement while speaking to Confindustria, a business lobby group that has called for a return to nuclear energy to reduce the high cost of electricity in Italy.
