Maria Sue Chapman, the daughter of gospel singer Steven Curtis Chapman, was killed in an automobile tragedy on Thursday.

Maria Sue Chapman, 5, was killed after her teenage brother accidentally hit her as he backed up in his SUV in the family driveway, according to Steven Curtis Chapman's website, which is located at stevencurtischapman.com.

The Chapman family was at their Tennessee home as they celebrated the engagement of their daughter and the high school graduation of their son.

Maria Sue Chapman was playing with several other children in the driveway when her brother, whose name and age has not been released, drove a Toyota Land Cruiser down the driveway.

Chapman was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Maria was one of three young girls adopted by the Chapman family from China as part of a ministry called Shaohannah’s Hope, named after the Chapman's first adopted daughter Shaohannah.

Chapman is one of the most successful Christian musicians of all time, having won five Grammy Awards and sold over 10 million records.
