Children Burn Toy Guns to Protest Violence in India

Hundreds of children in northeast India protested the violence that wracks their tiny village by burning their toy guns.

A local peace activist who organized the bonfire said the protest was a way to stop the children from imitating the violence they have witnessed in their society and to keep them from playing violent war games.

The children, who were all younger than 13, carried their toy weapons to a local high school playground and clapped as the bonfire consumed the toy guns.

During the protest Wednesday, the children carried signs proclaiming “We hate toy guns, We love football.”
