Costa Rican President Oscar Arias has been ordered not to talk for a month due to a cyst on his vocal cords.
Doctors discovered a nonmalignant cyst on his vocal cords after the 67-year-old Nobel Peace Price winner began losing his voice several weeks ago.
If Arias has not improved after resting his vocal cords for a month, doctors will evaluate the need for surgery.
This is not the first medical problem Arias has faced since taking office in 2006. He suffered from tendonitis in August 2007 and cancelled several activites this past April due to muscular pain in his lumbar region.
