Summit Fires Continue to Destroy Santa Cruz, Fire Claims More Than 2,500 Acres

The Summit Fires that have ravaged Santa Cruz in Northern California have now claimed at least 10 homes and charred more than 2,500 acres with no end in sight.

The more than 500 firefighters battling the Santa Cruz fire have been forced to deal with sustained winds of 20-30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, making it nearly impossible to contain the fast moving inferno.

Hundreds of residents in the area evacuated their homes in the mountain range that separates Santa Cruz from Santa Clara. With fire officials predicted the fire would grow to 16 square miles before containment, the evacuations will likely rise.
