France to Build Advanced Warships for Russian Navy

France’s President Nicolas Sarkozy has said his country has agreed to build two advanced warships for the Russian navy.

Sarkozy said that while the details of the contract are still being worked out the deal involves a pair of Mistral-class vessels which can carry troops or helicopters for amphibious assaults and each come at a $388 million price tag.

While Sarkozy has hailed the deal as a positive step in France’s relationship with Russia many of country’s NATO allies have expressed concern that the warship deal could be giving Russia too much technology.
