Sailor Burned in Fire Onboard Aircraft Carrier

After a fire Thursday onboard the USS George Washington, one sailor was treated for first-degree burns and 23 others underwent treatment for heat stress.

The fire on the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier was classified as “serious” and burned for hours before it was extinguished.

No fatalities were reported in Thursday’s fire in the Pacific Ocean off South America.

The George Washington has a nuclear propulsion system which was not damaged in the fire, and the carrier continued toward a scheduled port call in San Diego, California.
