Indiana Zookeeper Attacked by Leopard

An Indiana zookeeper at the Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend was attacked by a leopard on Saturday while she was cleaning the cat’s holding area.

Jeri Ellis suffered head injuries after the Amur leopard pounced without provocation.

Zoo Director Terry DeRosa said she was unsure what Ellis was doing inside the holding area with the cat. Ellis was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center with her head wrapped in white towels but her injuries were not considered serious.

Ellis was released from the hospital on Sunday.
