City councilors in the small town of Camden, Australia, located just outside Sydney, have rejected the proposed construction of an Islamic school saying the decision was based on the environmental impact the building would have had on the area.
While the decision was said to be made on environmental grounds the proposed Islamic school was met with heavy opposition from the public. At one point two pigs’ heads were placed on the proposed building site, a sign that the opposition was more concerned about the religious teachings of the Islamic school rather than the environmental effects of construction.
Camden mayor Chris Patterson has insisted the decision was not based on religious grounds.
