Canadian Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier Resigns

Canada’s foreign minister has resigned following allegations he left classified documents in a nonsecure location.

Before his resignation, Maxime Bernier had been in the spotlight for weeks after reports surfaced that a former girlfriend was linked to organized crime.

The announcement of Bernier’s resignation was made by Prime Minister Stephen Harper who did not elaborate on what documents were involved, where they had been left or if they had been shared with others.

Harper said Canada’s international trade minister, David Emerson, would serve as interim foreign affairs minister.
